M. Watkins Ewell, Sr.

M. Watkins Ewell, Sr., (1907 – 1970).  In 1932, Mr. Ewell founded the predecessor firm to Jones, Hamilton & Lay, PLC.  Mr. Ewell obtained his law degree from Washington and Lee University, in Lexington, Virginia graduating with honors.  At Washington and Lee, he was President of his graduating class and for a period after graduation worked with Yancy, Spillers and Fist in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He returned to Dyersburg in 1932 where he opened his law office on September 6, 1932.  Mr. Ewell actively practiced law in Dyersburg from 1932 until his death in 1970.
